Exciting things are happening at The Jenna Lowe Trust …
It’s been just 8 months since our Jen passed away and only three months since launching Jenna’s very clear objectives for The Jenna Lowe Trust on the day of what would have been her 21st birthday in October 2015. I am so very happy to tell you that it is happening… we are continuing and honouring her legacy. There is so much good stuff on the go but for today, to keep it simple, I’m going to share two things only
New Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic at Grooteschuur
One of Jenna’s most fervent objectives was to do something for all the PH patients in SA who had no access to treatment or expertise. Meet Rosemarie Hartnick … one of the 34 patients who are now registered with the new PH Clinic at Grooteschuur Hospital. Under the incredible guidance of two brilliant pulmonologists this clinic, really the first of its kind in SA, is fast becoming a much-needed centre of excellence for both state and private PH patients in SA. We are very involved with the clinic in many ways.
The Jenna Lowe Trust is currently funding our expert “Nurse Lizzie” to work at the clinic to support their team. Nurse Lizzie is high experienced; she worked with Jenna for nearly two years and was trained in the management of PH by the international experts Prof David Badesch and Nurse Practitioner Debra Zupancic whom we brought to SA in 2013.
We are also supporting the PH Clinic by funding much-needed mobility equipment and oxygen support equipment for state patients who are otherwise totally immobile; we are putting in place some support groups, running training; writing, designing, printing and distributing information/ care brochures for patients; working on a proper tri-phase PH registry … and much more! This beautiful message received from Rosemarie Hartnick last week evoked tears of happiness
“I would like to share with you a couple of pics of my “maiden voyage” yesterday. Thanks to the Jenna Lowe Trust I could spend the morning outdoors and even felt the sea spray on my face. I love the ocean and have missed this the most. I am eternally grateful for experience you afforded me. I will keep you updated regarding my “travels. With lots of love and gratitude”
